Scott Duffy was born and raised in Northern California. He started competitive swimming at a very young age. Practice on every weekday and swim meets on every weekend built a great foundation of dedication. Swimming evolved into water polo during high school and continued through college. Scott also enjoyed taking trips with family and friends. This is where his love for the camera began. Trips to Yosemite, the California coast, Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe, Montana, and Hawaii, really gave him the opportunity to explore and photograph beautiful locations.
When the offer arose to attend a photography college in either Rochester, N.Y. or Santa Barbara, Ca. his west coast background definitely swayed his decision. He enthusiastically enrolled at Brooks Institute of Photography. He completed a three year Bachelor of Arts program with major emphasis on Commercial, Portraiture and Illustration and a minor in Underwater Photography. Scott loves the Pacific Ocean. The Brooks classes were seven weeks on, one week off, to complete a semester worth of classes. The Underwater I and II program was his favorite. Fourteen weeks of intense hands on studies of Oceanography and Underwater Photography in the Santa Barbara Channel Islands. Mr. Brooks would lead the weekly expeditions out to the islands on his custom restored whaler "JUST LOVE". He would assist the instructor in teaching Scott custom black and white techniques and many other photographic secrets. With the use of planes, boats, and crew, he explored and photographed all of the Channel Islands, above and below. His education provided him with many unique experiences including swimming with a colony of hundreds of sea lion pups and exploring underwater caves filled with sleeping sharks.
After graduation Scott moved back to the Bay Area. He assisted Commercial photographers in San Francisco and San Jose for some time and also worked in a high volume portrait studio and photographed weddings on the weekends.
In 1993 Scott moved from the big city to the small resort town of Breckenridge, Colorado, where he started Scott Duffy Photography. Weddings and family portraits take up a majority of his time, but commercial and illustration jobs make a nice variety. Scott really enjoys living in the Colorado high country and has made a living at creating unique outdoor portraits for many of his clients. In 2007 Scott transitioned from Scott Duffy Photography out of his house to Breckenridge Portrait Company on Main Street Breckenridge. The new studio is the completion of a long awaited vision. With large canvas portraits and Fine Art images hanging on the walls in a warm and contemporary environment, the new studio is a great location to display and sell his work.
Scott is married and has two beautiful children that he loves to spend time with camping, fishing, skiing, and exploring the Rocky Mountains.
